Issue With Auto Discovery and Connecting Outlook 2007 with Exchange Server
Hi All
I have been struggeling for about 3 weeks now with this problem, i have also tried numerous solution on the internet and still i have not come right yet.
the issue that i am having is that every time i open outlook it pops up with a "Connect to Server Box" and asks me for a username and a password. So i Put in im my credentcials (Domain Username and Password are the same as my email account) and it then pops
up again, asking for the details again.
The other problems consist of Out of office manager not working because i cant get a connection to it.
i have tried taking security authentication away from the exchange server, but still i have nothing. I am not very experienced when working with exchange server so it is possible that i left something out.
please could some one help me with this,

Have you run EXBPA (Exchange best practice analyzer)to see if it reports any issues?
Also can you please cntrl right click the outlook Icon in the system tray and select test e-mail autoconfiguration.
Please post any errors here so we can see what is happening.

Hi,
To better understand the problem, please help to clarify the following problems:
1. What's your version of exchange server?
2. Does the problem happens to all domain users?
3. Does the problem occur when trying to connect to exchange server from internal network or external?
4. Can you log into OWA without problem?
Please first check the Authentication Permission
for the Exchange related virtual directories in IIS and made sure that they had following permissions:
Default Web Site Anonymous Required
Owa Basic
Required
Exchange Basic and Windows Authentication Required
Public Basic and Windows Authentication Required
Exchweb Basic and Windows Authentication Required
Oab Windows Authentication Not required
Autodiscover Basic and Windows Authentication Required
Ews Windows Authentication Required
Exadmin Basic and Windows Authentication Required
Microsoft-Server-Activesync Basic Required
Rpc Basic and Windows Authentication Required

Hi there to answer a few questions i am running exchange server 2007, i have run EXBPA (Exchange best practice analyzer) and it has come back with one critical one and two other
warnings.
the critical one is as follows:
Certificate has expired.
the ssl certificate for https://cozatec.co.za expired 01/23/2009 users may not be able to connect to the server
the other warnings are:
1. certificate principal mismatch
the principal for SSL certificate https://cozateccpt.local does not appear to match the host address. host address cozateccpt.local. Principal: CN=remote.cozateccpt.co.za.
2. certificate principal mismatch
the principal for SSL scertificate https://cozatec.co.za does not appear to match the host address. host address cozatec.co.za. Principal O=secure.konsoleh.co.za, OU=Domain Validated, OU=go to https://www.thawte.com/repository/index.html, OU=thawte
SSL123 certificate. CN=secure.konsoleh.co.za

the version of outlook that i am using is 2007. and when i start up outlook it asked me for a username and password (if i say cancel i can still recieve mail. but i cant use other functions like out of office etc.)
to answer Gen. yes it does affect all the users on the domain, the problem only occurs for when i am trying to connect to the exchange server internally, and i have no problems with OWA, i can log in successfully

As Gen asked what version of Exchange do you have ? Yes it is 2007 (Exchange 2007) but what service pack / update rollup ?
I would recommend to update your exchange to atleast Update Rollup9, the issue you are having has been a known issue prior to that Update.

Hi there
when i ran that command that you gave me this is what i got:
Name : SBS2008
Edition : Standard
AdminDisplayVersion : Version 8.1 (Build 240.6)
so what i am doing currently in installing the Updateroll up 10. which i saw when i opened the windows update menu. i presume if it is showing me 10, that the ones prior to this one has been installed.
i will let you know if it changes anything

Yes that means you are on Exchange 2007 SP1

Check with the above link - it tells you what those numbers mean - but it looks as this is SP1
so install all updates (make sure you had a full backup) and this issue will be fixed.
Outlook prompting for password was fixed in UR9.

Hi,
You may resolve the issue by correcting the certificate issues. OOF generally fails because of certificate issues. You must have identical names in SSL as well and host name.
I am not sure, whether you are using Outllok express or Outlook Web Access as you specified only as Outlook. 'Form based authetication must be there to save the credentials in OWA.
