KB2956128 causing problems with contact photo after edit

Case of disappearing contact photo Picture

After installing update KB2956128.

If you edit a contact that has a photo of the contact, type anything in the notes field save and close, Open the contact after the save and close, the photo is missing. put photo back then save reopen, photo is there, Type in phone fields, email, save reopen no problem, Type in the notes, save reopen photo disappears,

I replicated this problem on four computers. Login with admin user - same problem, Disable all offline and cache, Same problem. removed antivirus software, same problem, disable addins, same problem.  started outlook in safe mode, same problem, Go to a computer without updates, no problem.

Looked at recent updates found KB2956128 and looked up info on this update. I saw people having problems with this so I removed this update. Retried the notes edit save and the photo is still there. Problem solved.

This happened with office 2010 pro, both windows 7 64 and 32 bit, exchange 2010.

Contacts were on local contact folder and tried on public folder.

Having a problem with iphone sync Not sure if its related.

Also several people complained of outlook crash this week.

Anyone have a better solution?

Hi,

I reproduced this issue when doing the same on a Outlook 2010 with KB2956128 installed.

Once the KB2956128 is uninstalled, the issue is gone.

We have received some reports about the issues caused by KB2956128, this is a quick note to let you know we have been aware of the issue and will let you know once there's any progress on the problem.

Just a thought here.

I've been in the software development business for a gazillion years. Went to some good schools to learn how to do this stuff. Built and marketed many products for some big companies.

This is what we call in the business a serious bug. It loses/corrupts user data. It doesn't prevent the user from using the application which is a critical bug, but it's serious.

So...

Why wasn't this caught in the testing cycle?

Why hasn't it been fixed?

Don't answer those questions for me. Those are for you and your team to ponder.

This bug was forced on us February 10 - about five weeks ago.

A recent round of updates were applied and the problem has returned. KB2956128 was not installed this round. Any more ideas?

I'm having the same problem. KB2956128 is not installed. Did you ever determine which update was the culprit this time?

Yes, for me too the problem is 100% reproductible (on Windows 7 64 bits - Outlook 2010 SP2 32 bits) even if our PCs don't have KB2956128.

So another update made it reappear : The monthly updates for august were released 3 days ago but it's not it since we haven't applyied it yet in our company. It's a previous one.
