LUN disappears, Event ID 12
We lose one or two Netapp mounted luns while doing backups.A lot fo these show in the system log:Event Type:ErrorEvent Source:PlugPlayManagerEvent Category:NoneEvent ID:12Date:11/30/2009Time:12:02:36 PMUser:N/AComputer:PRODEXMB01-N2Description:The device 'NETAPP LUN SCSI Disk Device' (SCSI\Disk&Ven_NETAPP&Prod_LUN&Rev_7310\6&3ae0ae6c&0&000004) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.Data:0000: 00 00 00 00 .... We have Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 with SP2 running Exchange Server 2007 with SP2 in a CCR cluster.Any suggestions or hints to resolve this?Would a VSS update help (ex. KB833167)?

This doesnt appear to be an Exchange issue.I would check with the NetApp support folks or perhaps ask this in a Windows Server Forum:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/windowsserver/

Hi,
did you find a solution for your problem with the NetApp luns ?
I have the same problem and I think it is an Exchange issue because I don't have this problem with the backups of the windows Files or SQL-DBs

You should make sure you have the latest version of SnapDrive (6.2) and the latest version of SnapManager for Exchange (6.0). If it's still happening you will want to raise a case with NetApp support. They will take a look at the server, fabric and controller.
You would not expect one or two of several LUNs to drop offline. All of them or none of them, never just a couple.Mark Arnold, Exchange MVP.

Thanks Mark !
I figured it out, it is the Kaspersky Antivirus 6 for file servers (I also updated to the newest Version 6.0.4.1424), but it works without problems only since I stopped the Kaspersky services 3 days ago.
I have also some Exclusions rules, but I am now checking the recomended Microsoft exclusions Rules: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb332342(EXCHG.80).aspx and the try again with started Kaspersky
I have the Snapdrive 6.2.0.4519 but the Snapmanager for Exchange 5.0 (I will also update)

Updated the Snapmanager for Exchange but only the Solution from Kaspersky worked: stop per Script the Kaspersky File Antivirus before the Backup and Restart it after .
