Log files in MS Exchange
Hi, I am under the impression that an e-mail log file (MIME / Trace log) is part of the e-mail. If the actual e-mail exists, so should the log file (Even though the Gateway / Route log is purged off of the server) . Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello,The concept about the Exchange log files are here..."Microsoft Exchange Server transaction logging is a robust disaster recovery mechanism that is designed to reliably restore an Exchange database to a consistent state after any sudden stop of the database. The logging mechanism is also used when restoring online backups.
Before changes are actually made to an Exchange database file, Exchange writes the changes to a transaction log file. After a change has been safely logged, it can then be written to the database file. Thank you for the info. There is a company that claims they sent us an email but we never received the email. And we are asking them to send us a trace log of the email but their response is that their route / gateway log has been purged from the server and they can not provide that. They are on MS Exchange. My point is that if they have the actual email that they claim was sent to us, they should be able to provide a log in some sort that indicates the message was delivered to us, right? Thanks again Edwin
