Looking after Exchange on Windows 2003 SBS Premium
Inherited Windows 2003 SBS premium from an external support company. They did all the set-ups etc etc for all.
I noticed that there is a directory on the D:\ program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata.
Inside this directory which is the only one under exchsrvr - there is the standard priv1.edb / priv1.stm and pub1.edb and pub1.stm , but also about 3,500 log files.
Exchange has all it's files on the C:\Program Files\exchsrvr\ and so on - the mdbdata directory in here has only the chk and log file - server01.log is in there etc etc.
I checked Veritas Backup Execwith the Exchange agent and it's setting says to delete log files.
D:\ is approaching 85% and I was looking for stuff to archive when I came across this directory.
Any ideas why these files are still here and why the are on a different disk that Exchange ?
And how can I remove them cleanly.
Thanks

You can place the stores and logs on a different drive than the Exch binaries, so nothing unusual there.
To remove those transaction logs, run an online backup and confirm that its actually completing successfully both within BE and in the event logs on the Exch Server. Do not remove them manually.

Thanks Andy - that did the trick - 17 GB of Transaction Logs gone.
But of course it highlighted some other issues like
Why does Veritas Backup Exec not flush logs even though it is set to ?
And also why didn't NTBACKUP ( and Config Backup in 2003 ) not see my tape drive .... ?
but they are questions for the suppliers and other forums.
Thanks for you help on this one.

So, the implication is that NTBACKUP will automatically delete the log files after a "normal" back-up. Is that right? We've just completed a back-up run & the log files appear to have remained behind. Is there a particular setting or process that needs to be followed for the job to delete the log files automatically?
The instructions seem to indicate that manual deletion is not recommended. What would be the alternatives?

Ensure you are backing up the entire storage group to remove the logs.
