MSExchangeAutodiscoverAppPool won't continue to work
I'm kinda going bananas over this and have all but decided to throw in the towel and pay the $99-$249 to get MS to do the work for me but I'll try anything at this point. The company I work for is running Exchange 2007 on Server 2008 SBS and recently changed names to market this product of theirs. Everything was working fine under the first phase where their Godaddy SSL cert was under the 1st name. Then they switched names and wanted it reflected in their email addresses... This was fine as I altered the default email policy and made their incoming and outgoing email addresses reflect the change. I did not however change the domain or anything that large scale and the company didn't want to do that as well... Things were still fine. Then they asked to have their exchange portal change from https://remote.firstcompanyname.com/owa to https://remote.secondcompanyname.com/owa and not get certificate errors. So I went about getting an SSL certificate for remote.secondcompanyname.com. I installed it on the server and rebound the SBS web applications to this certificate, and that's when things started to hit the fan... The MSExchangeAutodiscoverAppPool was stopped and not responding. I tried hitting Ctrl and accessing the outlook 2007 tray icon to test the autodiscover services but keep getting 503 errors. I tried restarting the app pool but it stops itself within a minute or two. All the virtual directories internal and external urls still used the 1st company name, so I went about changing them to the 2nd name. Still not working. Everyone was still getting certificate errors so I went about getting a wildcard certificate for the 2nd company name. Certificate errors are now gone, but the MSExchangeAutodiscoverAppPool still won't run for more than 1 minute. The only other info I got was from turning the exchange logging onto high and I get these errors in the Application event log: Event 579, MSExchangeCommon Removal of priveleges from process "C:\windows\system32\inetsrv\w3wp.exe" (PID=9156, LABEL=MSExchangeAutodiscoverAppPool) failed with error code 0x80070005. It happens 5 times in a row and then the App pool stops. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You did not mention this, so I'll ask. Have you completely updated this server so that it has all the most recent service packs, updates, and rollups? I have not seen this particular issue, but I have seen a number of IIS worker process issues that are fixed with later releases.Jim McBee - Blog - http://mostlyexchange.blogspot.com

Hi, As my understand, after you changed the certificate onDefault Web Site, the MSExchangeAutodiscoverAppPool stopped. First I'd like to know how did you change the URL for OWA,just point remote.secondcompanyname.com to your Exchange Server from public DNS server ?Have you set the internal URL and external URL for Autodiscover services, OABvirtualdirectory, webservicesvirtualdirectory? How to Configure Exchange Services for the Autodiscover Servicehttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb201695.aspxSet-ClientAccessServerhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125157.aspxBesides,please try to refer to kb970445 and try to resolve the problem. If it is not the issue, please feel free to let me know. Error message when you try to browse OWA on Small Business Server 2008: "Outlook Web Access did not initialize" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970445 Regards, Xiu
