MS Exchange 2K3 & Outlook 2K3 Excessive MAPI sessions
I'm running Exchange 2K3SP2 (on Win2K3R2SP2) with 20 Outlook 2K3 clients. Several clients (random/no pattern which client) keep on disconnecting and reconnecting to exchange mailbox store (without login out of the old connections). Eventually,
exchange runs out of connections (currently set to 100) and would not allow users to reconnect. The error message on the Exchange server is EventID 9646. On the workstations, the EventID 26 is reported.

A few things for you to review since this could be many things. 1st thing I look at is if this all worked fine for some time without error then WHAT CHANGED? Product updates, new products etc?
Are you running a Blackberry server or anything else that links into Exchange
Anyone running across a VPN Any users decide to add some handy dandy new outlook add in? If none of the above, check out these articles

You can set the duration of the tcp KeepAliveTime (the keepalive
packets aren't sent by default) to the recommended five minutes.

If you have users that use WiFi and move around, disconnecting and
connecting to different APs this can be a real problem.

Since this problem surfaced across random PC (some locally, some across the VPN) and without any apparent patern, I'm thinking there's something going on with WindowsXP or Outlook 2K3 that's causing Outlook to constantly disconnecting from the server w/o
acknowledging the disconnect and thereby closing out of the MAPI session. What do you think?Tom Hoang

Could be, did you check out Riches post and execute to see if it helps , i.e.

It's probably more of a connectivity problem. Have you check to see
if the switches are reporting lots of dropped packets, mismatched
speed/duplex/autoconfiguration problems, etc?
