MS Outlook Lock-up .pst password

I have several .pst files on my local harddrive that are passwork protected and when opening MS Outlook it requests passwords for some of them based on whether the .pst file was opened when previously closing MS Outlook.

The problem is when opening MS Outlook and entering a password for a .pst file before my inbox and calendar folders are finished updating, MS Outlook locks.  I have to force MS Outlook to close and restart it.   Pressing ESC or selecting Cancel to close the .pst password dialog box and therefore not opening the .pst file will prevent the lock-up. After avoiding entering the password, if I want to access the .pst file I have to reopen MS Outlook.  This time it will not try to open the .pst file upon entering MS Outlook and I can then enter the .pst file password when I access it.

Please correct the program's code to not access .pst files until the inbox and calendar folders are updated when using it in online mode.

Thank you.

I can't repro that issue here.

Which version of Outlook are you using? (exact build number)
Which mail account type are you using? Is it Exchange with Cached Exchange Mode disabled?
Which add-ins do you have installed?
Can you repro the issue in Outlook Safe Mode?
Can you repro the issue with all add-ins disabled?

I am using ver 14.0.6129.5000 (32-bit).  I have no add-ins.  I will have to check the other items Monday morning when I have my exchange server adminstrator available.

If you have access to my email account, send me your number and I will call you so we can troubleshoot it over the phone.

Thanks.

Hi,

Have the problem been solved?

If not, here are some methods you could try.

1. Run Outlook in safe mode (Click run and type outlook.exe /safe) to check if it works fine.

If it is normal in this situation, go to File->Options-> Add-ins and disable add-ins which may cause the issue.

2. use the Inbox Repair tool (scanpst.exe) to diagnose if there are any errors in the pst file. See:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/repair-outlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA010354964.aspx?CTT=1

3. Create a new user profile in Outlook and then test the result.

Hope this helps.

The problem still exists.  Just seconds ago I started MS Outlook and instead of selecting Cancel I started entering the .pst password.  While trying to erase the password everything locked up.

Hello,

If the problem still exists, then you need to move on any third party utility. One of my friends suggested me a PST Password Remover Tool when I had the same issue. When I used this software, it really worked proactively. So, I would like to suggest you this tool on the behalf of my personal experience.

Note: Run its Demo version before purchasing.

Thanks & Regards
