Macintosh integration with Exchange 2007 (and a security question)
One of my clients is 100% Macintosh-based (as far as the desktops are concerned). The Macs do log into a Windows Domain, however (currently 2003 native). They would like to implement their own Exchange 2007. I was wondering if anyonewould share theirgood (or bad) experiences with Mac <=> Exchange 2007 implementations. Also, on another note... I haven't gotten completely up to speed on Exchange 2007 yet (althought I have done a handfull of implementations). In the past if I wanted to provide OWA in a secure manner, I would typically have three servers - a backend exchange server, a frontend exchange server, and an ISA server. What is the equivalent when working with Exchange 2007? My implementations are typically rather small (less than 500 mailboxes, usually less than 100). David

Clarify: You have two questions. You want to know the knowledge about Apple Macintosh accessing Exchange 2007. And then second, how to deploy OWA in Exchange 2007, right? For your first question, please view Accessing Exchange 2007 from your Apple Macintosh For second question, if you want to deploy OWA in a secure manner, it needs at least three server roles: Mailbox Server [MBX], Hub Transport Server [HT] and Client Access Server [CAS]. CAS server is similar to FE server back to Exchange 2003, it enables OWA feature in a secure manner by default when you install this server role Please view here if you want to see more about how to configure security part of OWA New OWA also provides enhanced client feature Notes: CAS server also provides other functions that includes Outlook Anywhere, Exchange ActiveSync, POP3, IMAP4, AutoDiscover [Locate Web Services like UM, OAB and Availability Service - Free/Busy status] More resources: OWA and Exchange 2007, Exchange 2003, and Exchange 2000 Coexistence Administration for OWA in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007

So I don't really have to have an ISA server anymore? I can just rely on my Cisco ASA firewall and just open up a few ports that point to the CAS server for OWA access? Thanks, David

Hi, David. Its all about higher and higher security protection. ISA and exchange 2007 can provide you a more secure environment as they are designing to work side by side.
