Mail submission service fails
Hello everyone,On a newly installed 2007 SP2 Mailbox server(the only role for that server) mail submission service fails to start (Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion).I tried to increase timeout settings in registry to 20 sec, but it didn't work. However, when started with administrator account, it starts without problems. None of the emails are delivered anyway, all appear in Drafts folder. All other Exchange services (including on other role servers) are running. There are no signs about connectivity problems between Mailbox and Hub transport servers, DNS resolves fine. Thanks for any suggestions.

What is set for the startup logon account now? It should be Local System. Also, Run ExBpa against the server.

Hello,That is actually the problem that it does not start with Local System account. BPA does not say anything, I went through all tests once again. Perhaps the onlyway is to reinstall the server completely.

The problem has been solved. My mistake was attempting to install SP2 - it kills Mail submission service. Another clean installation without SP2 and everything should be fine. Let's hope thatupdate rollup 9for SP1 does not include this bug.---------------------------------------------------------------------Summary: 7 item(s). 6 succeeded, 1 failed. SP2 however will have to be applied at some point if you want coexistance with Exchange 2010 and any further rollups. SP2 is pretty solid and your issuewas not typical. When you 1st installed Exchange did you install the Exchange binaries that have SP2 alrady slipstreamed into the setup programor did you install RTM or SP1 first?

First installed Ex2007 with SP1 included, then upgraded to SP2. On SP1 all services were running. Now it runs fine with SP1 UR9. I'll now disable automatic updates for Exchange. In test environment I can always checkif further updatesfor SP2 will solve our problem and if it does, upgrade to SP2 at any time.
