Mail with graphics attachment goes to junk folder

Hi Support,

The issue is with outlook client (2010) for only one particular user. When this user receives an Internal email with attachment which contains a graphics, then the email goes to Junk mail folder.

This is happening only for this user. We tried to send the same email to other users which are delivered to the Inbox.

We have tried to add this user in the "safe sender" list, added the whole domain in the "safe sender" list. But still the mail is delivered in the Junk mail folder.

We tried send this email to the same user without the attachment which can be delivered successfully.

We tried to remove the account  and add it again which did not help.

We tried to uninstall and reinstall the Outlook client which also did not help.

We tried to install Outlook 2013 instead of 2010 which also did not help.

The Information message on the Junk email is "Links and other functionality have been disabled in this message. To turn on that functionality, move this message to the Inbox. We converted this message into plain text format. Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments; "

Please do let me know if you need any further details to resolve this.

Thanks

Hi Arun.T,

Thank you for posting this issue on the TechNet community forums.

From the description I understand that you're experiencing problems with an individual mailbox listing email as spam when containing a graphics attachment. You also pointed out that you've added this user, and indeed the entire domain to the safe sender list, but the problem still remains.

I am assuming that, as this is an internal email, the domain is the same for both the sender and the recipient. If it is not, can you double check whether you've added the sender's email/domain to the safe sender's list NOT the recipients? This is an easy mistake to make.

You also mentioned that you are getting the following information message:

"Links and other functionality have been disabled in this message. To turn on that functionality, move this message to the Inbox. We converted this message into plain text format. Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments"

Could you try this on the client's machine please:

Stop disabling links and functionality in all messages

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. On the Preferences tab, under E-mail, click Junk E-mail.

  3. Clear the Disable links and other functionality in phishing messages (recommended) check box.

Note:

If you decide to select this check box later, Outlook will disable all the links in messages that were evaluated as suspicious by the Junk E-mail Filter, and you will receive warnings about suspicious links.

If this fixes the problem, be aware that this doesn't fix the underlying issue of the attachment being identified as spam in the first place. Just out of interest, do you have any third party scanning tool installed that scans outgoing and incoming mail, for example an Anti-Virus software?

Hi,

From your description, this issue occurs to one user. I recommend you use OWA to receive this email and check the result. If OWA works well, the issue should be related to Outlook side. Please check if there is any rules on Outlook, also use Outlook safe mode to determine whether the issue is related to add-ins. If OWA has this issue, check if there is any related transport rule or Inbox rule for this user.

Hope this can be helpful to you.

Best regards,

Hi Zach/Amy,

The issue is found with one of the rule in configured in the account. After disabling all the rules, the mail was able to reach the Inbox and we manage to zero in the problematic rule out of over 100 rules in the account.

Anyway, is there a way to find what caused the mail to be delivered non-default folders.

Thanks so much for your help

Hi,

Since you have found the rule that has an effect on the graphics attachment, you can disable this rule as a workaround, then the graphics attachment will be delivered to the Inbox folder.

Hope my clarification can be helpful to you.
