Mailbox Database Size Exeeding 100 GB
My Exchange Server Database size has exceeded 100GB Current Priv.edb size is 69 GB and Priv.stm is 68 GB Suggest me on the this 1) is it ok for a database size to increase above 100 GB2) i checked EVENT ID 1221 its shows "The database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (STAPLESEXCHANGE)" has 4924 megabytes of free space after online defragmentation has terminated." i have deleted 15 mailbox from my server freeing almost 15 GB of space stil i didnt reclaim that free space till yet Jasminder Batalia

HiJasminder,~ First of all, check below articles to understand the database disk consumption in Exchange 2003.Normally,Database size = Size of Mailboxes + Size of Retention Mail Items + Size of Retention Mailboxes + White SpaceUnderstanding Exchange Databases Disk Consumptionhttp://www.msexchange.org/articles/Exchange-Databases-Disk-Consumption.htmlDetermining the True Amount of Space in an Exchange Databasehttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996139(EXCHG.65).aspx~ Since you have already counted Mailbox size, Retention mailboxes & white space, suggest you to check size of retention mail items and decide to change the number of days to keep mail items in retention period and also make sure that Onlinemaintenanceis running fine and completing daily.~ Additionally, it is recommended to keep DB size maximum to ~50GB in Exchange 2003for faster recovery purpose. If you are running onEnterpriseedition of Exchange then you can create multiple DBs and limit the size ofindividualDBsto50GBbut if you have Standard edition then you don't have any otherchoice:) Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

hi, If it is hw limitation, then there is no scope of storing more data in the DB; hence it would be suggested 1. to defrag the DB. 2. ask users to create PSTs and keep it offline andremove mails from the ir respectivemailbox. (you could use ExMerge to create PSTs at server) 3. set mailbox size restrictions appropriately. 4. Finally do offline defrag rgd, eknathrao

Yep, agree with eknathrao...Mailboxes:~ Move the user mails to PST.~ Set the mailbox size to increase further.Mail item retention:~ Decrease the days in mail item retention period.Wait for online defragmentation to complete after doing above things so it marks the releasing space as a white space and do the offline defrag.Offline defragmentation requires 110% of free space since you don't have this, you can either map the reliable network drive to server and set the temp DB (with /t switch of eseutil) to create while defrag or move the database files to a another workstation/server for defragmentation. How to defragment Exchange databaseshttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/328804How to run Eseutil on a computer without Exchange Serverhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/244525Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

I would reduce the size of the database as mentioned in other replies. For me it is important to backup the server.Andrew Sword, MVP
