Mailbox Move Error Exchange 2003
I have an Exchange 2003 Server in an Active/Passive cluster. I have been able to move mailboxes around without any issue but lately I have been getting an error when trying to perform any moves. I get this error:
<progress code="0" milliseconds="121062">Connecting to source server.</progress>
<summary isWarning="false" errorCode="0x8000ffff">
An unexpected error occurred.
I also get and event ID 9166 'Failed to log onto the MAPI session on server Exchange. An unexpected error occurred'.
And event ID 1088 'Unable to move mailbox "username". Error: An unexpected error occurred'.
I have looked the errors up online and the only resolution I can find is to fail the server over to the passive node. The mailbox move process works for a while but then I am back to the same issue.
Any ideas on how to resolve this will be greatly appreciated.

It could be becuase of anti Virus on exchange box, make sure the Anti-Virus Exclusions on the Exchange Server or try disable it and move mailbox.

Are you sure the databases are healthy, i.e. have you run isinteg against the database? See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301460 and NOTE that when you run this you need to run it multiple times until you get 0 errors repaired.Troy Werelius

Ashish,
Thats a good idea. I may try disabling Symantec and see if the mailbox does move.

The databases were created about six months ago. Hopefully they are healthy. In order to check them with Isinteg I would have to dismount the store first correct?

Troy,
Thanks, I will try it first. Another question for you, how long does isinteg take to check a database? 60GB for instance?

Depends on the database issues, hardware available, disk speed etc but I would schedule several hoursTroy Werelius

How is thing going on? Does the error message persist when trying to move the mailbox after disabling firewall and checking database?

Update and Resolution:
As a trouble shooting step I split the page file between the C: drive and the D: drive of the Exchange server. I now do not have any issues moving mailboxes and I also got some reporting features back that were not working with Symantec for Exchange.
Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.
