Mailbox Quota
Hello,
I have Exchange 2010 with storage quota's set for Issuewarning and Prohit Send.
For example, my mailbox storage limit is 2GB. I set Issuewarning message to be generated at 1.5GB and prohibit from sending at 2GB.
What will happen if I hit 2GB threshold? Will I get a message saying I can no londer send till I clear the messages? If a user clear the messages with hard delete, will he/she be able to send again without administrator/ helpdesk intervention?
I know I could receive messages as I have not prohibit parameter set for receiving.

This works as advertised. Once you reach 2 gig, you will receive an error that your mailbox is over size limits and will not be able to send. Also many users have the feeling that deleted items are NOT part of their mailbox quota, so user training
will be necessary. Howwever once they have deleted mail, they will once again be able to send.

Hi,
please remember that the trash folder counts for the quota whereas if a user deletes the trash folder (and retention time is configures on the exchange system so the user is able to restore deleted items) the dumpser doesnt count for the quota.

Thanks all.
Should I get a warning message similar to "Issuewarning" when I am over my limit if
"Prohibit receive" is unlimited? Or I get a Outlook triggered popup when I try to send message?

Hi
You can set quota message for your mailbox.
Default quota messages
Event
Subject of message
Default message text
Mailbox of unlimited size exceeds its
Issue warning quota
Your mailbox is becoming too large
Please reduce your mailbox size. Delete any items you don't need from your mailbox and empty your Deleted Items folder.
Mailbox of limited size exceeds its
Issue warning quota
The message associated with the
Issue warning quota wont be sent to the user unless the value of the quota is greater than 50% of the value specified in the
Prohibit send quota. For example, if you set the
Prohibit send quota to 8 MB, you must set the Issue warning quota to at least 4 MB. If you dont, the
Issue warning quota message wont be sent.
Your mailbox is almost full
Please reduce your mailbox size. Delete any items you don't need from your mailbox and empty your Deleted Items folder.
Mailbox of limited size exceeds its
Prohibit send quota
Your mailbox is full
Your mailbox can no longer send messages. Please reduce your mailbox size. Delete any items you don't need from your mailbox and empty your Deleted
Items folder.
Mailbox of limited size exceeds its
Prohibit send and receive quota
Your mailbox is full
Your mailbox can no longer send or receive messages. Please reduce your mailbox size. Delete any items you don't need from your mailbox and empty
your Deleted Items folder.
Exchange 2010 SP1 introduces a flag that controls whether a mailbox is checked to see if its size is equal to or greater than 50% of the Prohibit send quota. As a result, if the Issue Warning quota is set to a value less than 50% of the Prohibit send quota,
the warning message associated with the Issue warning quota wont be sent to the user. For example, if a mailbox has a size limit of 10 MB, and you set the Issue warning quota to 3 MB and the Prohibit send quota to 8 MB, the user wont ever receive the warning
specified by the Issue warning quota because the Issue warning quota limit isnt equal to or greater than 50% of the Prohibit send quota. Instead, the user will receive only the message associated with the Prohibit send quota (in this case, when the users
mailbox size reaches 8 MB).
