Mailbox Size Mystery
HELP!!I've just migrated from SBS 2003 to Exchange 2007 and windows 2003 standard. moving the mailboxes was for the most part successful. I am, however, having a frustrating problem.I have ONE user that when he receives an email the sender gets the following message;Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists: _TotaroMarco@tru-val.comThe recipient's mailbox is full and can't accept messages now. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please try resending this message later, or contact the recipient directly. Here are the mysteries;1. Our user is in fact getting the email2. He's the only one having the problem3. His mailbox is NOT the biggest one in our database (he's at about 1.7 gig)4. All the quota's and message sizerestrictions have been removed both at the mailbox level and at the default level.Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,JeannieJeannie Flores

Hi Jeannie,How long did you wait after removing mailbox quota? It takes upto 2 hours to get it effective or you need to restart the Information Store service to make it effective immediately.Mailbox Size Limits Are Not Enforced in a Reasonable Period of Timehttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb684892.aspxAmit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Thank you for the prompt reply Amit, unfortunately that didn't work.Just to clarify, the quota itself is being enfored. the user is getting his email. the sender is getting the message above. In addition, since my last post, I've discovered that other senders to other users in my network are also getting the message above. All messages appear they are coming from Marco. the complete message is; Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists: _TotaroMarco@tru-val.comThe recipient's mailbox is full and can't accept messages now. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please try resending this message later, or contact the recipient directly. _____ Sent by Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Diagnostic information for administrators: Generating server: Exchange07.tru-val.local _TotaroMarco@tru-val.com#550 5.2.2 STOREDRV.Deliver: mailbox full. Hi Jeannie,This is strange, why sender is getting NDR from Marco eventhough mails are not being sent to him.- Do you have mailbox journaling enabled and journal recipient set to Marco? That might be the case that all mails are getting delivered to his mailbox. How to Enable Per-Mailbox Database Journaling http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123817.aspx- Check in EMC properties ofJeannie Flores that Forward To is not selected to Marco. Mailbox User Properties > Mail Flow Settings Tab > Delivery Options http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb629617.aspx- Check Mailbox quota of Marco and quota limit on themailbox database where his mailbox is sitting and un-select or increaselimitsif selected.- If you find anything above and do changes then restart the IS service to make it effective.Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Hi Amit,Thanks for all your help. We've solved the mystery. We had a rule setup to forward certain emails to a public folder. The size restriction was actually on the public folder so when we removed it, it stopped the bounce back message. that explains why the original user was in fact still getting the emails.I hope this thread helps other users out there.Happy New Year!!Jeannie Flores
