We are looking to migrate to Exchange Online but have a lot of mailboxes currently. Is there an easy way to tell the last time a mailbox actually received an e-mail, when someone has accessed the mailbox, etc...? I am trying to determine if half of the mailboxes we have are abandoned. Thanks

What version of exchange and windows are you using? In exchange 2007 you can use the exchange powershell Get-MailboxStatistics command to get information on mailboxes such as last logon date which could be used in a script to find unused mailboxes. There might be a better way of doing this, but none I know of off the top of my head.Michael

We are using Exchange 2003, however, since we use Netbackup it always shows the last user that accessed the mailbox was nbuadmin. Unless I am looking in the wrong location. I am just looking under the mailboxes folder.

You dont look at the wrong location. I have thought about looking at size as well, however, some of the mailboxes are support mailboxes that get cleaned out regularly. They may look empty or have no e-mail in them, but could be very much in use. From what it seems, there isn't a definitive way to get the info I need.

Usually, the users who left the company shall be removed from AD at the first place.
