Mailbox and log file moves in Exchange 2010
I need to move some very large mailboxes to even the sizes of my mailstores as well as move the log files to anothe partition. I have a mailstore that is over 1T and I need to balance. With that being said do I need to perform a full backup (which takes a long time) then turn on circular logging for the large mailstore and the one I want to move it to? Should I move the log file to another partition prior to the backup and mailbox moves?

I would run a backup, but you shouldn't need to enable cicular logging. Most of the log generation is on the target database, not the source. Simon. Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

Hi, Backup before you moving database or logging file would be a safe method. For Circular logging, I would not to enable it. XADM: How Circular Logging Affects the Use of Transaction Logs http://support.microsoft.com/kb/147524 Xiu Zhang TechNet Community Support
