Mails queued up in Exchange Local Delivery
Hi,
My exchnage server which is configured in clustered environment, Mails got queued up for local delivery. When i am searching all the queued messages, Its state looks like RETRY.
And after 8 hours - The messages which was queued up that was still in the local delivery queue, However after 8 hours the message which are sending by the users - its successfully delivering to the recepients with a bit delay.
In the (vsi1/queue) folder - I was able to find some of the messages, almost 32MB.
Finally we decided to take this ACTION.
** Stop the SMTP
**Rename the Queue to Old_Queue
** Create new folder with the name of Queue.
** Start the SMTP service
** Copy the mails from the Old_queue folder.
After completing this step the Queued got cleared. Messages start going like dream :-)
Question
Is that the right way, what I did ?
Why the local mails queued up for Local delivery in timely passion.
Has any have seen this kind of issues, If YES, Please share the Root Cause.
Thanks and Regards,
Ashwini Kumar

Hi Ashwini,
This is not normal. Do you get any error in event log? If yes then post it here.
Otherwise increase diagnostic logging for MSExchangeTransport Local Delivery and check if you get any error.

Hi Amit,
I did not got any error in my event log, On that time i have enabled Diagnostic logging for MSExchange Transport - for all category, and set as Maximum. But no luck.
Meanwhile I had restarted the SMTP.
I used Troubleshooting assistant before doing all this analysis, And the result was looking good.
Many Thanks,

Is your %SystemRoot%\System32\Inetsrv & Exchsrvr\Mailroot virtual server folders excluded from file level antivirus scanning?

Hi Ashwini,
Whether does the issue occur frequently? Whether the issue can be reproduced?
In addition, I would like to list some common causes of the issue.
1. Incorrect Anti-virus software configuration or corrupted anti-virus software.
How to Properly Configure File System Antivirus Software on Exchange Server
http://www.msexchange.org/articles/Properly-Configure-file-system-antivirus-Exchange.html
2. The database is corrupted. We can have several options to check and fix the issue:
a. Check the health of the database file and fix related problem by using ISINTEG and ESEUTIL tool.
This link has good information on ISINTEG and ESEUTIL
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-ISINTEG-ESEUTIL.html
Note: We suggest you run the above two tools with the help of Microsoft Support Engineer.
b. Create a new store and move the mailboxes to the new store
3. Performance related issue

4. Somebody sends large email which affects the server performance. I suggest you set the storage limits on databases to block sending large email. You can run EXBPA on the server and change the related configuration.
In addition, I suggest you have a look at following article regarding the issue:

Did you run ExTRA on the server? It might save you time and pinpoint where the issue is.
You can download ExTRA from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=4BDC1D6B-DE34-4F1C-AEBA-FED1256CAF9A&displaylang=en
