Make shared Onedrive file download automatically (not Office Online)

How can I make a shared document in OneDrive automatically download to a user not logged in Office 365?

I want MS Office 2013 file tos download and not show up in Office online.  Is that possible. It happens for MS Office 2003 and pdf files; when "View only" sharing but not with MS Office docx or xlsx files.

Hi,

I still have a few questions upon this topic, please let me know more details first.

1. Are we talking about OneDrive or OneDrive for Business?

2. Are you using the client to download files to local machine?

Per my knowledge, when we download files from OneDrive or OneDrive for Business, files are not removed from the online storage unless we remove them manually. These files shared to you are not downloaded if you are using the OneDrive or OneDrive for Business client, it is by design.

Since I'm still not sure about the request, please feel free to post back and let me know more about it.

1. OneDrive for Business

2. The person is getting a link from OneDrive Online. The person getting the link may or may not be an OneDrive user.  I want the Word or Excel file to act like a PDF and download automatically; not open in Office Online.

Download  here does not mean move or delete. It means sharing a file that cannot be edited online (just downloaded) by the recipient.

This is an example I am sharing a MS Word file for with a view only link:

Does it download or display in Office online?  I want it to download because I am actually creating a form in MS Word or Excel and want the person to download it, complete the form, save it with their name, and email it back. When the get the form in Office Online they get confused bout what to do.

TIA

Hi,

Now I understand your concern.

I opened your link and the document was opened on Word Online, and I don't know how to download the document directly when opening the link. Since we mainly discuss Office Client questions in this current forum, I thought it was an OneDrive for Business client issue. Now I know this issue is about how you want the share link to work from OneDrive for Business in Office 365, to get the more appropriate support, I suggest you post the question in Office 365 Community Forum:
