When we ran exchange 2010, messages that had an expiry date set were deleted by EXCHANGE within a couple of minutes of the date PROVIDING they were still in the users inbox AND they had not been read. Outlook did not need to be running for this to happen.
Messages that had been read were not touched by exchange. Outlook would then apply the strike through font. Could someone confirm I am correct in saying this.
Now we have upgraded to exchange 2013 this does not seem to happen. Messages are not deleted. The only help I can find is configuring outlook's archiving with it's "Delete expired items (e-mail folders only)"
Thanks.
