Microsoft 2008 HyperV
I am running HyperV on an AMD Athelon XP4000+ X2 in 64bit full mode. First let me say I am a big fan, I love it.
My problem is my colleague came up with a brilliant Idea, since my new PDC is a 2008 Enterprize server I can not use it as a web server. I am faced with the challenge of either running my 2000 Advanced server on a slower box or running my PDC on a slower box and changing my entire infrastructure. My colleagues idea was to create a HyperV session running 2k advanced server as a virtual session on the PDC. Great Idea solves all my problems. It's a dual NIC server board with 6 channel SATA Raid and SATA DVD rom for a backup drive plus a DAT 3 for directory backup that can be used for the web server, the application server and the PDC. Fantastic I can migrate my entire infrastrucure on 1 segment over to 1 box. Except that the virtual interface to the PCIE video card and the onboard NIC's do not appear to have supported drivers in 2k advanced server. What drivers does HyperV use? 2k will not accept the factory drivers for the onboard hardware and does not seem to know what drivers to use. Am I the only person insane enough to try to create a virtual web infrastructure with HyperV or are there compatible drivers out there for 2k to HyperV. I am going to try to install XP and see if I can borrow the drivers from the driver cache if it works but if anyone knows where I can get compatible drivers for 2k Advanced Server that will interface with the HyperV model I'm all ears.
