Microsoft Active Directory/Exchange vs. Cisco
I'm currently working on my Exchange 2007 certifications and would like to get Exchange 2010 and all other Exchange certifications in the future as well. I would like to do it because I like the technology and love to work with it on a daily basis. However,
I can't help to think that Cisco engineers are making more money than Exchange guys. For you guys that have been working with Exchange for a while, what kept you liking Exchange versus a career with Cisco where you could get paid a lot more? Thanks.

Rich,
Let's say you're only 28, would you make the switch over to Cisco?

I've never been trained on Cisco before. Here at work, I just started reading books, then configuring switches, routers, then FW. I'm actually loving it. Bought my Cisco equipment which I'll soon setup my Exchange lab with 2 forest with 2 domains in each
forest.

Cisco Eng make more than Exch guys, those days are long gone. It depends on a number of factors like the country you're in, the sector, emploter etc... I've worked with Cisco Engs and for the last 6 years, (not that I;ve been following it) Exch
guys have been paid more than Cisco guys at a general admin level.
It depends on roles you peform in each area. Sukh

Top Cisco engineers could make up to 160K or even 300K on contractual jobs. I have never seen that on Exchange guys.

Sukh828,
Your profile states your a Microsoft partner. How hard is it to start a Microsoft technology company?

Like I said before, it depends on country to country. Countries where I have worked it's different.
10 years ago yes, Cisco was the game to be in, now if you ask a Cisco Eng who's been in the game say 15+ years it's not the same, yes there are rare examples, but the majority is not the case.Sukh
