Microsoft Conflict Please Help.
I am running Exchange 2003 SP2 on Windows 2003 Standard Server SP2, and when I run the Exchange Best Practice it gives me a critical error that my paging file size is larger then the physical memory. I have set the paging file size to 1.5 times the actual memory which is about 6141mb. This is also what the Server recommends to be the paging file size. Question is, which is correct?

This is a known issue since Exchange 2007 rules were introduced in ExBPA. You can safely ignore it.

Does that mean under a Exchange 2007 enviroment, the paging file needs to match the system memory? Or does the 1.5 rule apply? Does the same rule apply under Server 2008?

I highly recommend you read this article: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2008/08/06/449484.aspx This article discusses how page file is used in Exchange 2007 and differences of 32 bit environment Exchange 2003 runs in vs 64 bit environment Exchange 2007 uses. The rule of thumb for page file = 1 to 1.5 times size of physical memory is still true (for Windows Server 2008 as well). However, best practice is to calculate what your page file need is based on your server configuration and actual application characteristics. The following article describes how to do just that. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889654 Lastly, If you are planning to run Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 server and the server is dedicated for this use, you can set the pagefile to match physical RAM.

Go reset your page file to "System Managed Size" or just insert the Check in the "Automaticly Manage pageing file size" That would resolve in the conflict.. You could alsobuy more ram.. Why would you reset the pageing file larger then the actual memory you have on the computer, anyways..?

The recommended page file size is equivalent to 1.05 times the RAM up to a maximum of 4,095 MB. This means that the largest paging file size per volume that you can set is 4,095 MB ---------------------Please view this article For paging file requirement in the exchange server 2007: In exchange server, the paging file recommendation: Set paging file physical memory + 10MB Exchange 2007 system requirement Page File Size is Less than Physical Memory Size Plus 10 MB
