Is it possible to install a fully functional version of Exchange and still keep my website readily available? When I installed Exchange on my Windows 2008 R2 Server it made my website stop functioning. I need to install exchange and keep my website working. How can I do that?

Web site? You shouldn't have a public web site on the same server as Exchange, as that is mixing anonymous and authenticated traffic on the same server, which is a security risk. If you insist, then a second public site should be in a seperate web site, not the default site. Exchange will want to use the Default Web Site because it expects to be the only web service on the server. It also requires the use of SSL. If you have a public web site on the server I would suggest that you move it to a dedicated host on the internet and have Exchange doing just Exchange. Simon. Sir, Thank you for the fast reply. The information is greatly appreciated. Resources being "public" or "private" is not an issue on the server that I will be running Exchange. If need be we can turn off authentication because I am not worried about security risks. There is no need for SSL or for any type of security because the network that all of my services run on is a secure encrypted network. Hosting any of my resources on the internet is totally out of the question though due to the sensitivity of the information being passed. Also, I need to keep the size of everything as small as possible due to the encryption factor. Would turning off authentication make the size of emails and the amount of traffic decrease? Is there anything else I need to look out for or do knowing this information? V/r, Crusham

You cannot ignore SSL. Exchange 2007 and higher is based around web services and uses SSL. Therefore whether your network is encrypted or not doesn't really matter one bit, as SSL will be used by Exchange and its clients. You cannot turn off authentication either, as that is core to the system as well. My previous advice stil stands, put the other web site on to an additional site so that Exchange can use the default web site. It must be able to use port 80 and 443 on the server - you cannot use alternative ports. If you are already using those ports and cannot use host headers, then you will have to put two IP addresses on to the server and adjust your DNS accordingly so that the Exchange server and all of its services resolve to the default IP address and your second site uses the second IP address. On the server with Exchange is installed, Exchange needs to be treated as priority, because it is designed to run on a dedicated server. hi, It is not recommended to do this. So if you can you should only install exchage on a server without other website. But if you really want to install exchange and website on a server. My suggestion is that you should install exchange first, then add another web site in IIS manager and configure it.
