Microsoft Exchange System Attendant will not start
I hope someone has a solution to this because I haven't found one yet.
In our company we have a SBS server that is Domain Controller and an Exchange Server. We installed a new server that is going to be our Blackberry server.
I've installed Exchange Management Tools on the server and for the past few days I am getting errors. I receive the following six errors in a row.
1) The Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
2) The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service depends on the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service which failed to start because of the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
3)The Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks service depends on the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service which failed to start because of the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
4)The BlackBerry Dispatcher service depends on the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start.
5)The BlackBerry Policy Service service depends on the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start.
6)The BlackBerry Synchronization Service service depends on the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start.
I know the Blackberry services are dependant on the Exchange services but I can't get the exchange services to start.
I created a blackberry account on our Domain Controller in the standard users OU.
I have assigned the Blackberry account to log on locally and as a service and as an administrator to the machine.
I have delegated control to the blackberry account to have him view only on the exchange server.
He has rights to Administer Information Store, Send As, receive as on the server side and first storage and public folder.
I don't know what I am doing wrong. I'm going to try to have the services start by the BES account instead of local account.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
The Exchange system attendant is not part of the management tools - sounds like you also need to install the exchange messaging and collaboration services.

That makes sense. I just saw the services in my services and applications so I thought I was just missing something. This isn't going to install Exchange completely is it? I just thought I needed the management tools for the Blackberry Server.

Hi,
Itwill install the full Exchange server - that appears to be a prereq for the blackberry services looking at the events.

I can't install Blackberry Enterprise on a Exchange server, that's what I was told by Blackberry Admins. Why would the services be installed for me when I installed Exchange Management tools if they won't run in the first place? That doesn't make sense.

Hi,
You are correct - that doesn't make sense.
See if you can uninstall the messaging and collaboration services to remove the services.

I ended up reinstalling the entire server. Fresh install so I'm going to redo my BES installation, this time i'm going to make sure that I have the exchange services running before I attempt to do any other software installation.

Leif you were right on how the services were not part of Exchange Management tools, the Blackberry server is up and running. Once I did a fresh install of everything prior to installing the Blackberry App I didn't see any of the other services running even after I installed the Blackberry App I still didn't see any of the other services. I messed up when I first installed the management tools the first time.
