Hi,

Try to change the WMI -> Msapps12 & CIMV2 security by adding the local user account to have full access.

  • To access your WMI, click Start->Run and type wmimgmt.msc in dialog box .
  • Once open right-click to WMI Control (Local) then select Properties.
  • Right-click to CIMV2 & MSAPPS12 then click Security tab.
  • Add the local user account (not the administrator) and designate it with full control.

And if your version of office 2007 is not SP2, I recommend you update it to Office 2007 Service Pack 2.

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I've just spent a week on this, and want to update it a bit.

First off, note that only Office 2007 SP3 is still supported by MS, anything earlier is out of support.

Like the OP, office 2007 installed OK, but launching any of the programs would result in a 'configuring office' screen, followed by a reboot, without ever finishing. Looking in event viewer showed the following warning:

A provider, OffProv12, has been registered in the Windows Management Instrumentation namespace Root\MSAPPS12 to use the LocalSystem account. This account is privileged and the provider may cause a security violation if it does not correctly impersonate user requests.

I also tried adding the 'NoReREg' flag to registry, this did nothing. I tried running word as admin, and then running %Program Files%\Common Files\microsoft shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller\SETUP.EXE as admin, also no dice.

Finally I followed the advice in the reply here to run wmimgmt.msc. Go to properties as described, however from there my screens looked different, possibly due to Windows 7. You should be on the 'General' tab. Click the 'Security' tab. Expand the 'Root' node. Select the 'MSAPPS12' node. Click the 'Security' button on the bottom of the screen. Add your windows login, and grant it the same rights as the Administrators group. Click OK and hope for the best.
