Migrated Users Intermittently Logging into Exchange 2013 when moved from 2007

Hi Everyone!

I have a strange one, when I migrate users from 2013 > 2007 the users are intermittently logging into Outlook. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't work we see the Outlook cannot expand folders (working with online mode by-the-way).

I've moved the mailbox to another DB on 2013 and I've even moved it back to 2007 and then back again just in case there was some legacy 'bits' still left on the user/mailbox.

I've tested Autodiscover with new profiles and it works fine and then the next day it just stops working and gives the above error and then it works again. OWA is absolutely fine throughout. TEST-Webservices, Test-Autod, TEST-MAPI, all come back successful!

We have load balancers but I've been reassured by the team deploying these they are correct!

Has anyone else seen this?

You are routing Outlook Anywhere, Autodiscover and Exchange Web Services through Exchange 2013, right?

That sounds like either the URLs aren't configured correctly (trying to use the same URLs on both servers for example) or the load balancers aren't configured correctly. If you get a client that isn't working and browse to https://autodiscover.example.com/owa (where Autodiscover.example.com is the name of your internal Autodiscover record or the Outlook Anywhere address) you should get the Exchange 2013 OWA screen. If you get the older version then the problem is with either the URLs or the load balancer.

Hi Ed,

Yes all connections are going through the 2013 loadbalancers and EX13 servers.

I've also noticed that EAS isn't working for migrated users, works fine for any new user created on 13, but not migrated ones.

Thanks,

Hi Simon,

I do indeed get the OWA 2013, I even checked the users local autodiscover xml and it shows all the new 2013 URLs so I assume it has nothing else to connect to other than what the XML is telling them too. When in Outlook everything works great, even FreeBusy to clients still on 2007, so again I see everything is fine. I can https://autodiscover and https://servername/autodiscover to all servers and I get the 600 just fine.

Standard first test - move a mailbox back.

Confirm whether the problem continues after allowing time for the change to fully replicate.

It should work properly again.

If so, then move the mailbox to 2013 again, waiting for replication of the domain once more. Then test again.
