Migrating E-mail from provider to Exchange 2007
Hi,
Hope somebody can help me with this.
What do I need to do in order to move the E-mail delivery from our E-mail provider to our internal Exchange 2007 server?
I already tested the installation and it seems to be working fine. Now I just need to figure out how properly do this without interrupting the E-mail delivery. One thing I know though is that I have to modify the MX record with our ISP.
Thanks.

Hi,Yes you need to change MX, host (A) and reverse DNS (PTR) records in the public DNS where it is hosted. Basically with your ISP, and test configuration with nslookup...How do I configure and test the MX Record for my Internet Domain name?http://www.petri.co.il/configure_mx_records_for_incoming_smtp_email_traffic.htmAmit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Amit,
Thank you for your reply!
Now, a consulting company suggested to use Postini for E-mail filtering so that the Exchange server does not get hit with Viruses or Spam. Is this true? I am planning to use Symantec Mail Security for Exchange.
Just curious what everyone else is doing.
One of the reasons, I guess, from moving the E-mail from a provider to Internal, is to have control of it and do not pay for the service. Using postini is essentially the same as having the E-mail hosted externally, I think.
Thanks.

Hi,Well, if you are going to buy Enterprise CAL then you have similar online service,Exchange Hosted Filtering for onsite and hosted antivirus and anti-spam protectionfrom Microsoft with it.http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/howtobuy/default.mspxYou can also use inbuilt antivirus and antispam protection on Exchange Hub and/or Edge transport server.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123688.aspxOr you can go for ForeFront for Exchange for better, improved and in-house controlled protection.http://www.microsoft.com/forefront/serversecurity/exchange/en/us/overview.aspxI would prefer to go with ForeFront.... :)Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Thank you for your reply too Mumin.A consulting company mentioned to me that they strongly suggest to outsource the filtering because of the amount of spam and viruses that will target Exchange.Just curious what evryone else is using. I watched a training video on Exchange 2007 not too long ago and they mentioned an E-mail relay (another server) to filter the messages before they get to Exchange. Is this a normal practice? Since servers are now more powerful, can the Exchange server act as the relay as well? This is my first Exchange server experience and I do not want to screw up anything. Currently we outsource the E-mail service and I want the transition to internal E-mail to be as smooth as possible.Thanks.
