Migration - SID Question

Hi

This has probably already been asked, but I am unable to find it

We are using a cloud email provider currently, running exchange 2013. we are planning to migrate to Office 365 Exchange Plan.

I am absolutely fine with the migration plan, however previously when deleting a user on our internal active directly, and the corresponding cloud mailbox, when re creating the same user a few months later everyone had to delete that user from their cache settings in Outlook to be able to email her again!.

I am therefore concerned that anyone with our cached details for any of our employees will no longer be able to email us post migration, and will need to re enter the email address from scratch.

From what ive read it appears to be an "internal" issue only, but I want to check this.

Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt,

According to your description, I understand that Outlook client cannot send message to someone who store in Outlook Auto-Complete list and has been deleted in AD, even though you can recreate account with same name.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Its by design, the auto-complete list, also known as the nickname cache, is generated automatically as you send email messages from Outlook. The list contains SMTP addresses, LegacyExchangeDN, and display names for people that you have sent mail to previously. If create an account with same name, the GUID and SID has been modified.

For your question, we have to run Outlook.exe /CleanAutoCompleteCache to reset the nickname and the automatic completion caches. More details, please refer to Information about the Outlook 2010 Auto-Complete list:

Hello Allen,

Yes you have described the issue I am trying to clarify the point on.

I understand that this does happen, however I don't know if this happens with external users also?

So if I go from one cloud email provider to Office 365, so therefore recreating their mailbox with another provider will we have the issue you describe? Do external users (as in people not within our cloud email environment) have the same SID and other information regarding external email addresses?

As that is what we are trying to avoid, as it will mean we need to contact a lot of people to advise what you what said.

Thanks,

Matt
