Migration from SBS 2008 to Server 2008 R2 or NOT
Hi, I have few doubts, and hoping if someone can help me with it. 1. Is it a good idea to create a new domain(xyz.local) from scratch in Windows Server 2008 R2, and then manually create all objects from current domain(abc.local). Given that abc.local has around 10 production servers and 50 desktops. Out of these there are 2 Hyper-V Hosts, which are clustered all in abc.local domain. My doubt is changing domain will break the cluster and all other production servers. Can anyone guide me, if this is can be done. Well, i am in favor of migrating from SBS 2008 to Server 2008 R2, as there are lots of documents out there. Thanks.

I recommend that you post your question in the SBS forum since moving from SBS to Windows Server and other server platforms is not the same as with Windows. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/smallbusinessserver/threads Having said that, I would plan on transitioning to Windows Server 2008 R2 rather than starting over.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi, If you domain is stable, I suggest that you keept it instead of migrating to a new domain. That's so much easier and requires less work. So for the Exchange part, you need to 1. Install two member servers 2. Prepare your domain for W2K8 R2 3. Run DC promo on SERVER1 4. Install Exchange on SERVER2 5. Move exchange data to the new server 6. Uninstall Exchange on your SBS 7. Transfer FSMO from old to SERVER1 8. Decommission SBS See this: http://blog.mpecsinc.ca/2011/07/transitioning-from-sbs-at-75-userdevice.html ..and I also suggest that you ask in the SBS Forum for more help Martina Miskovic
