Missing Exchange Displayspecifiers entries in Configuration Partition
Environment Background:
Active Directory version:
AD 2003 forest functional mode
Exchange 2003 extensions
Exchange 2007 prep work completed (pl, ps, prepareAD, preparedomain)
Exchangeversion: Exchange 2003 SP2 (no Exchange 2007 yet)
Issues:
This is an environment that I inherited and trying to clean up. I am seeing the following issues:
1. Inability to create query based distribution groups (QDG)
- The ADUC context menu displays a "Dynamic Distribution List" instead of the usual "Query Based Distribution Group" option
2. Inability to correctly see the properties for Public Folders within ADUC
- Instead of seeing General, Member of and Details tab when looking at PF properties, I get General, Object and Security tabs. Although we can still manage Public folders using PFDAVAdmin
3. Missing msexch* displayspecifiers entries for all languages in the configuration partition.
- This is the root cause of issues 1 & 2
Proposed solution:
Take system state backup
Re-run exchange 2003 forestprep
This is based on KB article 875300 http://support.microsoft.com/KB/875300/EN-USwhich discusses issues with missing displayspecifiers entries in configuration partition and re-running exchange 2003 forestprep to restore these entries.
I have a lab environment which mimics these production issues and I was able to validate that re-running E2K3 forestprep fixes the issues that I have listed. I did some exchange tasks validation as well to ensure that common management tasks are still working after this action and everything seems to be fine.
Have anyone else run into a similar issue where the fix is to re-run e2k3 forestprep? If so, did you encounter any other issues.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Arden,
Re-running setup /forestprep doesnt create any issues. It verifies certain Exchange schema & attributes and fixes things if anything found broken (in your case displayspecifier).

Thanks Amit! All the research and testing that I have done verifies that answer as well.
This just gives me some peace of mind as I perform this step in our production environment.
