Missing items from GAL
Hi there,We are having an issue with distribution and mail enabled security groups and individual users, disappearing from the global address list. They are visible in active dorectory and have not been marked as hidden. We are running Exchange Server 2000 with all the updates. There are various versions of Outlook floating about from 2002 to 2007. It happens even when either live mode or cached mode.Your assistance is appreciated.ThanksDav

I would suggest confirming the entires are available by searching for them via Outlook Web Access. This allows you to immediately see if entries are active.
You may have problems with the offline address book, and need to troubleshoot/recreate the offline address book
Try this link for help with that:

Clarify: user cant see some Distribution Group (DG) and mail-enabled user contact in Global Address List (GAL)
Collect info:
1. Does the same symptom happen on all users with different version of outlook?
2. Can users see these missing DG and individual contact from All Groups and All Users of Address List?
3. Can users still able to send mail to these missing DG and individual contact by manually input the address in To field?
4. These missing DG and mail address is newly created or old?
Troubleshooting:
Notes: We shall confirm that RUS functions well before troubleshooting on OAB level, make sure the address lists and email address update normally
1. Go to ESM-> Recipients-> Recipient Update Services->check all setting in there if had any incorrect. You may refer to the article below
2. Go to ESM->Recipients->All Global Address Lists->found your GAL and preview the filter results, see if you can find those missing objects in there
