Mixed deployement of exchange 2007 and 2010
Hi We want to upgrade our exchange 2003 to 2010 deployment but want to install the exchange 2007 for the edge transport role how can we do that? should we install a 2007 server in the environment to move on or can we go on with 2010 then later install 2007
with edge role and just add it to the organization.
Thanks
Tony

Why wouldn't you deploy an Exchange 2010 Edge Transport role server?Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Thanks Ed
The reason is that we have purchased 3 exchange server licenses .One is for hub and client access. One is for mailbox role and one is for the unifed messaging.
We have a single license for Exchange 2007 that I want to use that for Edge transport.
Thanks

Hi,
You can deploy an Edge Transport server on Exchange 2007. But the Edge Transport server can’t be a member
of your Active Directory organization. In this way, it can be considered expendable when it comes to the possibility of facing an attack from the outside.
So install the Edge Transport server on a computer that is in your organization’s DMZ. Don’t put
it completely outside the firewall, and don’t put it on the inside of the network.
For more information, you can refer to the article ‘Edge Transport Server Role: Overview’:

Hope it helps.
Thanks
