Move exchange to New Server Issue
I have a windows 2003 DC server with exchange 2003. I setup a new 2008 DC with exchange 2010 I transfered all the FSMO roles and made the 2008 server a global Catalog as well.( I still left the 2003 server a GC also) THen i moved the mailboxes over and replicated public folders. I then removed exchange from the old server. Everything seems to be working fine but as soon as i uncheck global catalog from old server i stop receiving emails. I would like to get rid of the old server. This has been like this for over a month.

firewall pointing to correct ip. Exchange Completely removed from old server. No services are crashing. Here is what i do notice. If i uncheck Global Catalog from old server i can not open exchange management console i get a kerberos error. Under Server Configuration > System Settings for Domain controller server being used by exchange i have the old server listed as well as for the Global catalog. So i need to change that somehow to the new server but dont know how.

Try using this - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd298063.aspx If this doesn't work, try Set-ExchangeServer and exclude the old GC and test.Sukh

What is the detail error for "stop receiving emails". Please run ExBPA and then post the error information here. Please check event log and post the related error event information here. By the way, what do you mean "uncheck"? Can you give the detail steps for how to uncheck? Xiu Zhang TechNet Community Support

Exch obviously doesn't like the new DC/GC, it doesn't even recognise it as it should, SACL right is missing, are you sure there is no firewall preventing access locall yon the new DC or anything in between?Sukh

i didnt realize that the windows firewall was enabled on the newserver so i disabled it and I do notice now EMC opens alot faster. I dont know how long it will take to replicate the GC data to the new server. Now that i disabled the firewall on the newserver should i run any commands.

Not to help the situation but to test it works. Have another look at that 2080 and make sure it reports what you see for the old DC.Sukh

still no luck. It seems as if the 2008 server wont accept the GC role.

This doesn't seem to be an Exch issue so you may be better off posting in the AD forum. You can always try to demote and promote to a DC again. Sukh

Hi, Please verify if you have transfer Fsmo to the new domain controller successfully. Using Ntdsutil.exe to transfer or seize FSMO roles to a domain controller http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255504 Also you can try to use Ntdsutil.exe to determin which server is hold FSMO. After we connect to windows server 2008 via Ntdsutil.exe, please type the following command: select operation target: List roles for connected server Xiu Zhang TechNet Community Support
