I am going to be moving my HUB/CAS roles from my mailbox server role and onto their own server. I am going to be bringing in an extra 1200 users to my environment so I will be taking some load off the mailbox server by doing this. I assume I would install these new roles on their own server, move my SSL cert over and then uninstall the roles from my mailbox server? What would be the best method to go about doing this without interrupting mail flow or having down time? Thanks, Alex

It depends how your ailflow looks. If MX record is set directly to Exchange, you need do change it to new server just after installation, than wait for DNS replication and remove the old role after some time (the same with SPF). YOu also should remember about adding new server to send connector.Regards, Konrad Sagala

I have an smtp appliance and no direct route(mx) to my exchange server, so I assume I tell my email appliance to point to the new HT?

Yes, if the SMTP appliance accepts mail from the Internet and routes to the current HT server, point it at the new HT.

Normally you needn't create receive connector - two receive connectors are created by default. Generally you only need to check the box to receive anonymous mails, eventually restrict connections to receive connector only to your smtp apliance. If you want to add more security, you can also set TLS or user/password for this connection.Regards, Konrad Sagala
