Moving from Postini to Edge Transport - Exchange 2007 SP3
I currently have an Exchange 2007 server that was configured on a VMware server and a new Exchange 2007 Server (Hardware) recently added to the domain. I just installed an Edge Transport server and performed the edge subscription process. Both new servers are on Windows 2008 R2. The Edge is configured with two NICs. One is connected to the DMZ(192.168.0.x), the other is connected to inside LAN (192.168.1.x). I am relatively inexperienced when it comes to Exchange 2007 and therefore looking for some tips on migrating from the current configuration to the new one. We are currently using Postini on the existing server and I want to migrate to the Edge Transport. When I performed the Edge subscription on the HUB, the process seemed to be successful, however, I see no new EdgeSync connectors. When I look at the application logs, I see "Syncronization successfully completed on server:CCB-EDGE" I have looked through numerous documents online but no clear understanding of how to move from existing Postini smarthost to Edge Transport. I know I will have to point our hosted DNS mx records to our public IP address, but beyond that I am stuck. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Chris

All you do is create a Send Connector with the Edge Server/s as the source server. That is it. The information is replicated to the Edge server and email will flow out that way. You could even set Postini as the smart host with the source server as the Edge. Then remove the smart host when you are ready. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Thanks Simon, However after running the Edge Transport subscribtion process, shouldn't those connectors (EdgeSync) be created automatically? I made sure that the option for creating automatically was enabled. Also, do I just uninstall Exchange from the old server to remove it from the domain one the new server is configured? Thanks again for your help. Chris

Simon, To configure the postini as the smart host through the edge server, do I just create send connector per your previous response then configure the smarthost on the edge? Thanks,Chris

Edge Sync doesn't create the Send Connectors, only the receive connectors (for email from Edge to the inside servers). For sending email out through Edge you need to create or adjust your existing Send Connectors. This is because you may not want (all) email to go out through the Edge server. You only need one Connector to use a smart host and Edge. The Send Connector has the Edge server set as the Source Server and then Postini as the Smart host. If you are replacing a server then uninstalling it will remove it correctly from the domain. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

Thank you all for the help. I was able to create the correct connectors and I now see the EdgeSync connectors. Chris
