Multiple Exchange 2013 Mailbox Databases

Hi...

I'm currently doing a migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 CU 1. I'm a little new to Exchange 2013 and my searching hasn't produced an answer to this question.

When I'm in the Exchange 2013 ECP ( Exchange Admin Center ) -> servers -> databases... I can see my Exchange 2010 mailbox DB, but I also see TWO Exchange 2013 mailbox databases. They are named "Mailbox Database 0204215151" and "Mailbox Database 1429400191". Is one mailbox database for the actual mailboxes and one for public folders? Is it for redundancy and high availability? Does it matter if I use one over another?

Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Do you have 2 Exchange 2013 Servers?  The naming "Mailbox Database xxxxxx" applies to new databases created when you install a new server.  They are the default DB's

I do not have two Exchange 2013 servers. I only have one Exchange 2010 and one Exchange 2013.

It's possible that I have the two mailbox databases since there was a problem with the original install of Exchange 2013. The install had to be done again on the same box.

Is it safe for me to remove one of those mailbox databases if there isn't any mailboxes connected to it?

Thanks J!!

Quick question, running Get-Mailbox - Arbitration and Get-Mailbox -Monitoring shows me the mailboxes but not what mailbox datastore they are on. Is there another switch I need to add to those cmdlets in order to see that?
