Multiple email address domains on one server. How to set correct ehlo responce for the different domains
I have multiple email address domainson a single server Exchange 2007 installation. I need to have the correct ehlo responce depending on the email domain addressthe email adress is from.ie: if email is from john@xyz.com the ehlo responce will be 250-mail.xyz.com Hello [123.456.789.024] and if it is from sue@rodger.com the ehlo responce willbe 250-mail.rodger.com Hello [123.456.789.024]Thank you in advanceSteve

This is an interesting question. Why do you want to do this? Do you realize that ehlo is the first thing that's "said" during the session, even before the sending server says who mail is for? Therefore it would not be possible for the server to dynamically reply as it isn't the order of things. But anyway, the ehlo response is defined within the receive connector. A single receive connector can have only one response defined. You could use multiple receive connectors, each with a separate response. The problem is you would now have, is that Exchange will pick the best connector for the traffic which wouldn't necessarily coincide with your plan. So to accomplish your request, you would have to use multiple IP addresses on the Exchange HT server and then make each receive connector listen on a separate IP. Then you would need to adjust the mail flow ahead of the Exchange server via MX records or other smarthosts you may be using.More...Mike Crowley: MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator

I've had a user who's messages have bounced back from a server in Brazil with error indicating that because the ehlo message did not match the email domain then the email would not be accepted. RegardsSteve

The bounce back message contained the following explanation: infraero.gov.br #554 Transaction failed (Reason: http://postmaster.infraero.gov.br/SMTP_HELO_FALSE.html) ##

Aha, ok - I thought you had the opposite problem. My mistake! So have a look here:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/pt-BR/exc2007pt/thread/edd7d9c0-a8b9-4861-890a-11933191798b/it's in Portuguese so you'll have to translate using google.com/translate, but the resolution was related to external dns, even though it seems they got a similar message.I've also translated the link you supplied here. You can create send connectors that say different things based on their destination, but it would not be easy to create them based on source address. Let me look into what options might help. I'll post back with more info. You can also look here to see all the options available. Ok, I don't see anything that would help. This link also describes your scenario. and I agree with the expert comment at the bottom. This shouldn't be a restriction on the receiving system as it is common for hosting companies to have multiple customers on a single server. The issue might be related to DNS or another setting. I would contact the .br domain and try to see exactly what they are looking for (as mentioned in the previous translated technet link).Mike Crowley: MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator
