NASTY gocha in Beta 2 install
After posting the bug at https://www.connect.microsoft.com/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=171927&SiteID=20 I clicked Finish.Setup attempted to start again but failed. I waited several minutes to see if it would eventually start properly. It didn't.I tried to run Setup again and found that Step 4 was greyed out as "completed". It hadn't "completed" - it had failed on the attempted CASR install.I restarted the machine to see if that would clear things.Step 4 is again greyed out.So, currently, I have no way to remedy the failed CASR install or to attempt the skipped Mailbox install. For me, for obvious reasons, this is a "blocking" problem.

I have found a workaround.Open Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs.Select Exchange Server 2007 Beta 2 and click the Change button.A different interface opens that allowed me to select the failed/bypassed setup options - i.e. I could select Client Access, Mailbox and Unified Messaging.I changed nothing and the previously failed Client Access Server Role installed without a hitch and preliminary testing suggests I have at least some functionality. The Mailbox and Unified Messaging roles also installed ok.It's odd ... and worrying ... that a failed install then succeeds with no new configuration steps.Hopefully my original problem won't be widespread.Andrew Watt

Andrew, can you take a look at the ExchangeSetup.log and see if that provides some insight on what happened?

Hi Vivek,I can see the error about an inability to access the IIS metabase with the suggestion that the IIS Manager may not be configured properly. That was the error message I received when CASR failed.Install failed just after that point.Andrew Watt MVP
