Need Advise - Multiple Domains
Forgive me ifthis is a stupid question. Ihave a holding companywith three companies, Oil, Ranching, Other.I would likemy Outlook users to be able to be assignedan email account based ont the company they belong to and host it all withone Exchange 2007 server. For example. user1@oilcompany.com and user2@ranchingcompany.comI know youcan easily configure Exchange to accept emails frommany domains but as I understand it, whenthe usersends a new messageit will have the domain name of theexchange server appended to it.If my exchange server is configured for oil and I belong to ranching, when I send an emailit will have the oil domain, right? How do hosting companies do it? I have a small shop, less than 50 people but want to get started on the right foot. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,Steve.Steve Hendrickson

Thank you for the reply. Yes. We only have a single Domain structure for all our companies. We are a new shop and I'm able to make changes if I need to.Steve Hendrickson

Hi Steve,You need to configure additional domains asaccepted domain in Exchange 2007 to receive emails for it. Reference: Configure Exchange 2007 to Receive E-Mail for other Domains http://www.petri.co.il/configure-exchange-2007-recieve-email-other-domains.htm You need to configure the MX record to receive mails from outside for other domain in public DNS (probably you have itat your ISP). To assign email addresses to the users of additional domains, you need to createemail address policies for each respective domain and filter the users based on AD attribute (such as company, custom attribute..) while selecting condition. References: How to Create an E-Mail Address Policy http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124401(EXCHG.80).aspx Configure Specific E-Mail Addresses for Specific Exchange 2007 Recipients http://www.petri.co.il/configure-specific-email-addresses-exchange-2007-recipients.htm You may need to create UPN for additional domain inADSites & Services... Thanks Amit,I've done most of what you suggested already or at least I'm aware of it except the UPN portion but I'll look into that. To make sure I understand you correctly. If I create two users in AD. Then create two separate exchange address policies and deploy one to each user so each user has a different email address. Assume I've done all the MX record changes and configured exchange to receive emails from the two domains. So, if I send and email as user1 and as user2, each email will appear to come from their respective email addresses (Domains) as defined in the address policy?User1@Domain1.com and User2@Domain2.com? New messages and replies, forwards etc will work as well? Won't the authoritative domain kick in on one of them?Steve Hendrickson

Yes, make sure that primary SMTP address stamped correctly with respective domain suffix and whenever user sends/replies/forwards any mail, it should go from primary SMTP address....UPN is basically to login with OWA when it is configured with Form-Based Authentication...How to Configure Forms-Based Authentication for Outlook Web Accesshttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123719.aspx Amit Tank || MVP - Exchange || MCITP - Exchange 2007 || http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
