Need to keep mailbox but want to block all new mail
I have several mailboxes that I need to keep because of potential FOIA requests, but I don't want it to continue receiving messages. I also don't want the people who have access to the mailbox to be able to send mail from that account. Is there a way to block all incoming/outgoing traffic and still retain the mailbox?

Hello, You can set the MaxSendSize and MaxReceiveSize to zero. Bill

Also, you can change its SMTP address so it doesnt get anything from the outside. Then you can remove the existing owning AD account and assign a fresh one that you control. You can give users access, but not full access, to it. What version of Exchange are we talking about? "ARSiegel" wrote in message news:84cf1135-caaf-4209-a5e7-14dac0b1ff4b... To prevent access, remove any FullAccess permissions and disable the account in AD. To prevent them from receiving more e-mail, you can create a Transport Rule to simply drop any e-mails sent to them (this way the sender won't even receive a NDR). Or simply set their ProhibitSendReceiveQuota to 0KB.http://LetsExchange.blogspot.com

Hello, If you are running Exchange 2010, you can follow: 1. From EMC, Right click on the user’s mailbox and click Properties. 2. On the General tab, click on “Hide from Exchange address list”. 3. On the “Mailbox Features”, disable “MAPI”. ============= Simon Wu Exchange Forum Support Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.
