Hi We are running Exchange 2007 SP2. Within the same AD site, we a bunch of GC's (GC1.domain.com, GC2.domain.com, GC3.domain.com). One of the GC's needs to be rebooted, perhaps during production hours. From what I understand, Exchange only uses on GC at a time. When this GC is rebooted, I want to make sure none of our Exchange servers is using it :) I have come across this article here: http://msexchangeguru.com/2010/05/09/hardcoding-domaincontroller-exchange2007/ It gives steps on how to hardcode a GC (and un-hardcore). Some questions - 1. Does this apply to *all* Exchange server types (CAS, HT, MBX etc) 2. The article states I need to recycle services, does anyone know which one? 3. Is this a recommended way to avoid any problems when I'm about to reboot a GC during prod hours? 4. I guess if the GC was going to be rebooted out of hours, we could take the hit with Exchange. Am I correct in thinking that once the GC Exchange was looking at was back, Exch would function again as normal? 5. Is there a PowerShell commandlet to find out which GC is Exchange is using, or is Event ID 2080 the only way?

Hi Pancmo, I would not suggest you to use cmdlet "set-exchangeserver" just for point some specific DC for reboot one of GC. In my practial experience, if you have more than on GC in site, simply you can reboot your one GC server. But yes exchange will fetch lots of warning but not go offline as it will connect other GC in same site. Only you can stop monitoring of your exchange and can reboot your GC.Anil
