New Edge transport AD LDS compatability question
We are looking to deply an exchange 2007 SP2 environment. THe domain level is windows 2003 becuase we have some legacy applications we have been holding off on bringing the domain level to Windows 2008. My question is about ADAM and AD LDS. 1.) Can I install ADAM on a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit Edge server and implement it with a windows 2003 domain(all DC's are W2K3)? or is ADAM strictly for a windows 2003 OS? 2.) Can I install AD LDS on a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit and connect to a Windows 2003 domain level (all DC's are W2K3). We have to wait until the end of this year before we can upgrade the DC's to windows 2008 R2. If the answer to either of the questions above is yes then what is involved when upgrading the DC's to W2008 and the edge transport server. Would I be better off installing W2003-SP2 and ADAM on the edge or wait to install W2008 ( AD DS) with AD LDS. AK2

Thank you for your reply, however it does not address the questions asked above, also both links are the same document. I have seen those technet documents prior to starting the thread. The questions are: 1.) Can I install ADAM on a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit Edge server and implement it with a windows 2003 domain(all DC's are W2K3)? or is ADAM strictly for a windows 2003 OS? 2.) Can I install AD LDS on a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit and connect to a Windows 2003 domain level (all DC's are W2K3).AK2

Hi, Based on my research and test in my lab, ADAM is only available for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP. You cannot install it on Windows Server 2008. For more information, please refer to the following article: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=9688f8b9-1034-4ef6-a3e5-2a2a57b5c8e4&displaylang=en Also, AD LDS can be installed successfully on a Windows 2008 R2 64bit system. However, Exchange 2007 server SP2 is not supported on Windows Server 2008 R2. Only Exchange Server 2007 SP3 supports all Exchange 2007 roles on the Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system. Thank you for your answer! I have also verified that the final question: 2.) Can I install AD LDS on a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit and connect to a Windows 2003 domain level (all DC's are W2K3). According to Mcirosoft a 2008 R2 -64 bit AD LDS edge machine in a 2003 domain level (all DC's are windows 2003) is compatible. THanks for adding the issues about Exchange service pack 3.AK2
