New Email Notifications in Folders and Subfolders
Hi All.I have just installed SBS with Exchange 2003.My workstations are using XP with Office 2007 and 2003. I have been used to using Outlook 2000 / 2003 as stand alone programs and not connected to exchange. When I set up SBS with Exchange, I had all my mails moved to the appropiate mail recipients in Exchange. Now to my weird problem. If I create new mail folders with no sub directories when mail is received the folder becomes bold and with the number of new emails displayed. However if I create a folder and then create more subfolders, then create rules so that as email is received it is sent to the correct subfolder, if that main folder is collapsed, I don't know if any mail is in the subfolders unless I expand all subfolders. Below is how I have structured my mail inbox.Folder(Client)|.subfolder1(Name) |.from |.sent|.subfolder2(Name) |.from |.sent|.subfolder3(Name) |.from |.sentThis behaviour happens in both Outlook 2007 / 2003 when connected to Exchange. Doesnt happen when Outlook is used as a normal client. Can anyone advise me as to what is happening and how to solve this problem.Regards,Kevin.

Hi,
I think outlook doesnt show notification for mails which goes to subfolder neither folder shows count including subfolders.
Alternately you can click on Mail in left side pane and you can see an option name Unread Mails in Favorite Folders which gives you all unread mails and total count from whole mailbox.
This Unread Mails in Favorite Folders is nothing but a custom search folder.

Hi Amit,When using Outlook as a normal mail client not connected to Exchange, yes you will have subfolders highlighted. I have be at clients whom are using Exchange server, and will show all the subfolders that have mail that is unread. I am thinking it could be a difference with SBS but not sure. Thanks for the reply.Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Please understand that when email filters direct incoming mail into mail folders, Outlook will highlight that folder. However, if the folder is a child of another folder, the highlighting is not brought to the parent folder. It is by default regardless whether the Server is SBS.
Thus, I suggest that you keep all the subfolders expanded
Mike

So there is no way to see total unread items in all subfolders if the main folder is collapsed?

Well, that is a problem. I wonder if Microsoft can change this behavior. I am not a big fan of the Outlook 2007 as it stands. I do not like the look and feel of it. But I guess just keeping the unread messages folder open is my best bet.
