New Exchange 2007 install and dismounted database
Hello,We have a new Windows 2008 SP2 server that we installed Exchange 2007 SP1 on today. Prior to the install we did the following;Ran the Exchange 2007 Readiness check on the existing Exchange 2003 SP2 server running on Windows Server 2003 SP2, the readiness passed without any issues or recommendations. Then we followed the procedure to prepare the Windows 2008 SP2 server, found in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691354.aspxThen we followed the procedure to prepare Active Directory, found in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224.aspx, stopping to validate that the steps properly updated the schema, add the appropriate security groups etc. Then we proceededwith the new Exchange 2008 SP1 installation and rebooted the server upon completion. After the reboot we found the First Storage Group dismounted, while the Public Folder Database was mounted. We get the following errors in the application log on the Windows 2008/Exchange 2007 server;8197, 4001, 9518, 9519.Within the timeframe we found a couple of items on the Windows 2003 SP2/ Exchange 2003 SP2 server; Event Type:ErrorEvent Source:MsiInstallerEvent Category:NoneEvent ID:1018Date:9/17/2009Time:3:44:31 PMUser:Domain\superviseComputer:HMDC01Description:The application 'Windows 2000 Administration Tools' cannot be installed, because it is not compatible with this version of Windows. Hi,This problem may occur if the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service experiences an ecAmbiguousAlias error when enumerating the groups and users that are assigned permissions to the store databases objects in Active Directory. The error occurs when a security identifier (SID) cannot be resolved to a single user. In this scenario, the SID is present in the security descriptor of the database objectthat will not mount. The SID cannot be resolved to a single user if one of the following conditions is true: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932599.please acknowledge .RegardsSyed Arsalan.syed.arsalan

Hi Syed,I think you're right on this direction.I found article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925825when troubleshooting this issue. Method 2 on this article revealed that I can't access the "Domain Controller Security Policy."I get the following error on both our domain controllers (both are Windows 2003 SP2 R2);"Group Policy Error, Failed to open the Group Policy Object. You may not have appropriate rights. Details: The system cannot find the path specified."I haven't figured out how to resolve this yet. Thanks,Brian

Hello,OK, we finally fixed this issue yesterday, it was a very involved fix.The underlying issue is that the NTDS Quotas container was corrupted, sometime about a year ago something occurred in this network that corrupted this specific container.Microsoft support, some very smart AD guys, had me build a virtual 2003 DC, we then used the Windows debugger and the virtual DC to rebuild the NTDS Quotas container, while outbound replication was disabled. After the container was rebuilt we re-enabled outbound replication and were instantly able to mount the databases in the new E2K7 box.Thank you for your time in trying to help look at this issue!Brian
