New IE patch breaks Exchange 2000
I just installed the re-release of MSMS06-042 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (918899) andit has brought down 3 exchange servers. Inbound emails from the internet just sit pending in the routing connectors. Problem started immediately after installing patch yesterday.
outbound and internal mailflow is ok. Just inbound doesn't flow.
I have been waiting for over an hour on hold with ms.
has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks

I can confirm this issue exists.
We manage multiple domains and experienced this on 2 of them. Both servers were running Windows 2000, with Exchange (One was 2000 and the other 2003). Both servers were also running Symantec Mail Security for Exchange. After installing this patch, the server behaves very slowly. The event log does not show anything unusual; however the "Automatic Updates" service and the "Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange" service showed "Starting" as the state, hours after booting the box. We were unable to display pages in Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer, including the control panel and more specifically the Add/Remove Programs control panel. We also tried opening Add/Remove Programs from command line using "appwiz.cpl" with no success. We tried the typical reboots, reinstalls, etc... Nothing worked to correct the issues.
We fixed it by booting into Safe Mode, and removing the patch using Add/Remove Programs. Or you can search the registry for "918899" and find the uninstall string in the registry. We could not get this uninstall string to work unless we were in safe mode
The server returned to normal after removing the patch and restarting.
