Hi, we are planing to deploy Microsoft mail exchange server for one of our customer. This is the first time we are deploying this. The customer have a unlimited cal user licence, do he have to buy anything else then that ? also what about anti spam and antivirus licence

As far as Exchange Server Concern you don't need anything. Hello, I would carefully check and verify with Microsoft the type of CALs your customer has. There are differing CAL suites that provide CALs for different products. One of the basic ones does include Exchange Server Standard CALs, but this doesn't include per-user enterprise features such as UM, Personal Archiving and Discover Search. The Enterprise CAL suites for Exchange that include this are additive and also include licensing for FOPE and Forefront. Additionally the customer would need to purchase licensing (possibly via their existing agreements) for Windows Server and Exchange Server. Exchange Server standard is suitable for all servers including DAG nodes unless more than 5 databases will be mounted at any one time per server. Windows Server Standard edition is suitable for all roles except DAG nodes, which need Windows Server Enterprise for the clustering features. As a disclaimer, I'm not a licensing expert so I would recommend checking all this with the customer's Microsoft licensing representative. Don't take my word for it. Exchange Server does not come with anti-spam and antivirus solution or the license, you will need to purchase third party application or use MS Forefront solution. Either way you will need to purchase additional licenses. Hi, Agree with Steve. But note that the customers who want to acquire the Enterprise features must have both the standard and the Enterprise CALs. The Enterprise CAL with Services has many features but also has antivirus and anti-spam service subscriptions from Microsoft Forefront.
