New Server 2008 Deployment Questions???
We are in the process of migrating from Netware to Windows Server 2008 and I had a few questions for the migration. We have a District Office with 30 site locations. The District Office will have the main Domain Controllers and the 30 locations will be setup with a file server and a Domain Controller.
1. I currently do not have the hardware for the domain controllers or file servers at the 30 locations. I do have the 2 DC's at the District Office installed and AD setup. I would like to get the tech to start on the workstation migration of getting the computers on the domain still using Novell for the file server. My question is, will I have issues adding about 5000 computers to the domain and only having the the 2 controllers at the District Office? They will just be logging into those DC's and getting some Group Policies from them. I have 100mb connections from the 30 sites to the District Office.
2. Server 2008 Volume Licensing. What is the best way to license 2008 with 60 plus 2008 servers in play? KMS or MAK?
Thanks

This forum is for exchange related issues. For questions about Windows server please use the Windows Server 2008 Forum which would be the most relevant forum for your question.
Please take a look at the Table 34 Domain Controller Capacity Planning in the article Best Practice Active Directory Design for Managing Windows Networks. It would be a good start for evaluating the DC size limitation.
Still, the result depends on the actual hardware. You may try to use ADSizer, or test the hardware setup in the lab before deploying
As for the volume license activation, please refer to these documents
