New Visio docs won't save
I have more than one user who has Visio 2010.  The problem only occurs in new documents.  They start a new document either blank or with a template.  They can do all the work but when they go to save nothing happens.  Save and Save As do not respond and the only option they have is Cancel in which case they lose all their work.  They have been working around the issue by keeping a blank existing file and doing a Save As with that document to create a new one.  This issue does not occur in existing documents.  We are on Windows 7.  The people having the issue are also running Sync Center in the background.

It sounds like they aren't registered copies. Sync center should not be an issue. Are the files they ar attempting to save on the local system, or are they on the network?

They are both registered copies.  The files they are trying to save are in My Documents which is one of the folders that is synched.  All their files in My Documents are synched to a network drive.  What makes this really strange is that they can bring up any existing Visio files, make changes and save without any problem.  On a new document if you click the save button there is no response.  Same with save as.  If you try to exit from the file it will ask you if  you want to save and give the option of save, save as, or cancel but the only choice that responds is cancel.  At no time are you given a chance to choose a path to save to.

I'd probably start by opening the events viewer (under administrative tools) and checking the Windows logs to see if an error is being posted.

No issues in the event viewer.  I had checked that previously.  However, I went and signed on to one of their PCs and Visio works correctly for me.  Maybe profile?  Not sure.

More information.  I had one of the uses having this issue sign on to my PC.  The difference being that I have admin rights to all the machine in the company he doesn't.  He was not able to save a new file in Visio from my PC either.  We both have folder redirection turned on.  I played with his settings and changed his default folder location to a location on his c: drive.  Works fine there.  Sooo... he cannot save a new Visio file to a redirected location.

I was looking for a solution for over a week and stumbled upon this link. I created folders in C drive and changed the default locations to those directories I created and it worked fine.

Thank you!

Hello.

The problem relies on Folder redirection which was pointing to UNC path.

We changed registry to point visio DrawingsPath to some mapped drives via Group Policy.

Regards,
Bernhard

Work Around: Click "send to recipient as an attachment"  It created an e-mail for me ok, I was able to save that in outlook (didn't even send the e-mail) and was able to drag that off the saved draft e-mail into a folder,  I then re-named the file just so it wasn't still "Drawing 1" so I could check it was opening and working ok, I then opened it, seemed all ok, closed down visio, re-opened and ... All ok!
