Not all recipients in a Distribution List are receiving e-mails.
Hello. We have had a strange problem occur as from Monday this week. We have a few Global DL's where not all recipients are receiving e-mails. At the moment it seems to be very random as to when this is happening but it seems to be isolated to Global groups, Universal groups seem to be un-affected as yet. We are using Exchange 2003 SP2 running on Windows 2000 server (SP4) Nothing has changed as far as systems are concerned and no AD changes have taken place. Can anybody enlighten me as to why this would suddenly happen. Regards Lee Gregory

Hi Lee, Within multiple domains, you should only create mail-enabled universal Group. Local and global group are present in Global catalog, but without their membership attribute. Therefore, if a client is accessing a global catalog which is in a different domain to that of the local/global group, then they would not be able to see the group membership. If a message is sent to local/global group and the Exchange server processing the message is using a global catalog which is in a different domain to the group, Exchange will not be able to expand the group because the membership is not available. In such scenario, it may be necessary to specify an expansion server for these groups. Regarding how to configure this, you can refer to the KB I provide below. However, using universal group is still the recommended solution and will eliminate the above problem.
